The best walking routes in the UK

Sometimes you need to slow down a little to appreciate your surroundings. There’s nothing better than taking a wonderful walking holiday to assist, and the UK offers a perfect place for exploring.

With beautiful rural locations in Britain, our Landal GreenParks offer amazing access to tranquil woodland, scenic coastline and more than a few fantastic surprises. Here are a few recommended walks to enjoy close to your Landal holiday home.

Bakewell to Chatsworth House, Derbyshire

Taking in the gorgeous Monsal Trail, this countryside walk winds through woodland and lovely rural locations, eventually ending at the beautiful Chatsworth House – perfect for rewarding yourself with tea and cake!

Beginning in Bakewell, you can wander through history, taking in forts, mills and more. There are 6 and 8 mile options available. Landal Darwin Forest is your ideal base for enjoying this walk, not to mention the perfect place to unwind afterwards.

The Tissington Trail, Derbyshire

Located along a disused railway line, this popular walking spot offers the perfect place for admiring a wealth of stunning scenery. Running for 13 miles from the town of Ashbourne to Parlsey Hay, how much you enjoy is entirely up to you. The end of the trail opens up to the High Peak Trail, where you can continue your on-foot adventure.

Even if the Tissington Trail sounds like too much work, don’t fear, there are plenty of pit stops to enjoy along the way. Pubs and cafés are dotted all along the route, or you can return to Landal Sandybrook for refreshments in the on-site bar and restaurant.

The Lakeside Way, Northumberland

Tailor-made for stunning scenery and active pursuits, Kielder Water is a walkers’ delight. The man-made reservoir offers a scenic 26 mile circumference filled with wildlife and gorgeous views. It’s also completely accessible too.

A ferry service offers a scenic ride back if you don’t fancy the whole circuit, and it also allows you a perfect view of the surrounding scenery. See if you can spot ospreys in season! And when you’ve finished exploring you can return to the comfort of your accommodation at Landal Kielder Waterside. Hot tub, anyone?

Monikie Country Park, Angus, Scotland

The great outdoors has never looked better. Monikie Country Park allows you to take a guided walk or self-led trail through some of Scotland’s most beautiful scenery. The trails around the two former reservoirs are ideal for walking, but if you fancy something a little more challenging then you can attempt the treetop high ropes course.

There are loads more activities to enjoy too. Take to the water and enjoy sailing, windsurfing, rowboats and more, or you can sit down for a little fly-fishing. With accommodation at Landal Piperdam waiting to ease your relaxation, you can enjoy the best of both worlds.
