Watergate Bay Beach – Cornwall
Watergate Bay is about 3 miles from Newquay in North Cornwall. The beach is 2 miles of golden sand and is popular with families and surfers. If you are looking for some adrenaline fun, you can find the Extreme Academy, on the beach. They offer a variety of watersports including surfing, waveski, kitesurf, kite buggy, land board, or traction kite lessons, or try them all with their ‘extreme day’.
If you’re looking for something more relaxed, you can chill out on the beach or grab something to eat at The Beach Hut, which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Bantham Beach – South Devon
Bantham Beach is in an AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) in Modbury. It has expansive sands and shallow waters, making it perfect for a family day out and a paddle in the cool waters. There are lifeguards from May through to October (from 10am to 6pm). Dogs are allowed throughout the year, but there are some restrictions. Between 1st May and 30th December, dogs are not allowed on the main beach. However, there is a large sandy area beside the estuary, where your four-legged family members are welcome all year.
There are plenty of facilities, including accessible toilets, a beach café, a nearby shop, and pub.

Whitby Beach – North Yorkshire
Whitby beach in West Cliff is the main Whitby beach and stretches for 2 miles of sand. The beach is known for its brightly coloured beach huts. The beach is popular with families, with lots of activities, from crazy golf and trampolines to bumper boats.
You can hire deck chairs, windbreaks, and even a beach hut for your visit.
There are two large pay and display car parks at West Cliff as well as on-street parking and the beach is a short walk from Whitby train station.

Traigh Mhòr Beach – Outer Hebrides
The Traigh Mhor is a mile-long, magnificent white sand beach at North Tolsta in the unspoiled North-East part of the Isle of Lewis. It’s the site for Barra Airport and is the only runway in the world that is washed twice a day by the tide. They also use a tractor to transport the passenger luggage.
When the orange windsock is flying, this shows a plane arrival is imminent and the area is out of bounds to people on the beach.

Cresswell Beach – Northumberland
Cresswell Beach is said to be one of the best on the Northumberland coast. Its long sandy beach is wind protected due to its sand dunes. At low tide the rock pools are exposed making it the perfect place for the kids to explore, a 10-15 minute walk away, you will find the Northumberland Wildlife Trust.
The beach at Cresswell never really gets busy and is largely unspoiled. Except for the height of the summer, there is a fair chance you will only see the occasional dog walker.
There are a couple of options for refreshments and snacks in Cresswell Ices and Drift Café.

Broughty Ferry Beach – Tayside
A large sandy beach, backed by dunes and overlooked by Broughty Castle; the castle itself is now a museum.
Broughty Ferry is a fantastic award-winning beach. The local residents are proud of the beach and take part in clean-ups. If you are lucky, you can even see dolphins from the beach. There is direct access to the beach from the promenade.
There are animal exclusions in the western area between 1st May and 30th September. The eastern beach dog-friendly all year.

Freshwater West – Pembrokeshire
Freshwater West is known as one of Wales’s top surfing locations. With wide sandy beaches protected by sand dunes, it is also popular with families.
It’s strong rip tides make it best for paddling and watching the surfing from afar.
Freshwater West has featured in two films – Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood and also Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows where it was used as the back drop for Dobby’s Shell Cottage.
There are 2 small, free car parks and there are refreshments in the form of Café Mor, which sells beach food promoting sustainability.

Cleethorpes Beach – Lincolnshire
The water at Cleethorpes Beach is of excellent quality and they have been Blue Flag awarded their cleanliness, safety, and access for all. Cleethorpes beach is a long sandy stretch of picturesque coastline. At low tide you can walk for what feels like miles; it’s a perfect family day out.
There is plenty to do around the beach, including arcades, boating lake, the pier or you can even take a train ride up and down the promenade. There are lots of places to eat, several serving fish and chips.
There are lots of car parks and facilities, in peak months you may have to use one of the car parks a little further out and walk-in unless you get there early.

Porthmeor Beach – Cornwall
Cornwall is famed for its beaches, white sand, turquoise waters, and continental feel, but Porthmeor Beach really is the best of the best. Ideally located near St Ives, it’s a popular family location.
Being so closely located to the town, it is perfect for taking a cool box and getting all the supplies you need from the town. If you prefer to eat out, you can visit the popular Café at St Ives or the Lifeboat Inn.
Parking can get busy in peak season, so it might be worth parking at St Erth station and taking the train into St Ives and enjoy the countryside.
