5 easy ways to go green

Recycling and working to save the environment needn’t cost the earth, and nor do you need to completely change your life to do your bit.

There are all kinds of ways to help the environment in your day to day life. And with sustainability such a big part of so many people’s lives, it has never been easier to ‘go green’.  So here are some everyday actions that you can do to help save the planet.

Ditch the car

If you’re taking a long journey then look into public transport as a much eco-friendly option. While train tickets can be expensive, if you book them far enough ahead you can grab a bargain and enjoy the freedom of not having to drive.

When making shorter distances, try walking or taking a bike instead of the car. Not only is it better for the planet, but it is also great for mindfulness. Being at one with nature in the great outdoors allows you to connect with your surroundings in a far more enjoyable way than taking a scenic drive. All Landal parks are situated in green surrounds, so getting about has never looked better!

Eat and Shop Locally

Slow food, or food that has not travelled too far from its source, not only tends to taste better, but is also far better for the environment. So wherever possible try to shop locally for the best taste and the biggest environmental benefits.

But the benefit doesn’t stop with the environment; you will also be making a positive contribution to the local economy too. Don’t forget to bring reusable shopping bags on your next break as well so you can avoid relying on disposable ones.

Turn off the heating

Everyone loves to stay warm, especially when going away. While it’s more than acceptable to use your heating when in the lodge, make sure you don’t forget to turn it off when going to bed or heading out (the same goes for your lighting too!).

Since there are so many activities at many of our parks, one of the best ways to stay warm is to run, walk, swim, splash or climb to get the blood pumping. Not only will they warm you up, but they will also help keep you healthy and happy.

Digital detoxification

When you’re presented with such glorious and gorgeous green settings, you will want to turn off your screen and enjoy beautiful views of the British countryside.

Turning off your electrical devices, or enjoying a ‘digital detox’, is one of the best ways to reconnect with nature and enjoy the great outdoors whilst also alleviating stress. And the fact that you won’t be using electricity to charge them is a blessing for the environment too.

Reduce reuse recycle

Refillable water bottles are one of the best and easiest ways to reduce waste on your break, so make sure you bring them or buy some locally when at the park and make use of free water stations.

Unfortunately, it is currently not 100% possible to be completely waste free, but Landal Greenparks offer as much recycling as possible. With that in mind, make sure you make the most of the in-park recycling facilities.
